People's Artist of USSR, People's Artist of Uzbekistan, People's Artist of Kyrgyzstan, Laureate of the State Prize of Uzbekistan named Hamza (1970) , Laureate of the State Prize of USSR (1982), Legend of Soviet/Russian Classical Ballet, Prima Ballerina, Artistic and General Director, Ballet Mistress, Coach, Professor Bernara Rakhimovna Karieva was born on January 28, 1936 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. From 1943 she attended Uzbek Choreographic Ballet School where her first teachers N.A.Dovgelli and L.A.Zass immediately noticed high potential and talent in their young student. From 1947 she moved to Moscow, Russia, where continued to study at the famous Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Graduating with Distinction in 1955 (class of former Mariinsky Ballerina Maria Kozhukhova). Shortly after her graduation she returned to Tashkent and entered State Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater Im A.Navoi and after very short time promoted as Prima Ballerina. For more than four decades as most beloved Prima Ballerina in Uzbekistan to this date in a long and Illustrious Artistic Career Mme.Karieva portrayed more than fifty roles in Classical, Neo Classical and Contemporary Ballet Repertoire. Her most noted roles were Odette/Odille in Swan Lake, Giselle in Giselle, Kitri in Don Quixote, Phrygia in Spartacus, Maria in Fountain of Bakhchisarai, Cinderella in Cinderella, Chopiniana (Vals & Mazurka), Francesca in Francesca da Rimini, Sari in Path of Thunder, Nina in Masquerade, Sohani in Amulet of Love, Anna in Anna Karenina, Medora in Le Corsaire and many other roles. She has frequently toured and danced in many other Cities across former USSR and also Danced Internationally where frequently partnered by Kirov Ballet (Mariinsky) Danseur Noble Vladilen Semenov, Adol Khamzin Principal Dancer at Maly Theater (Mikhailovsky), Maris Liepa (Bolshoi Ballet) and Vitaliy Vasiliev among others. Mme.Karieva has Danced on stages as far afield as Cuba, England, Italy, Jamaica, France, Syria, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica and India. From 1985 till 1998 Mme.Karieva was elected President of Theatrical Union in Uzbekistan and was a President of Committee for the theatrical disputes and coordination of cultural exchanges and performances in the Southeast Asian Region. In 1994 Mme.Karieva was appointed Artistic/General Director of State Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater position held till 2002 where organized and enabled many International tours of her company performing in Thailand, Singapore, India, Turkey, Hong Kong, Japan, Pakistan, China and Malaysia. During this time she started her teaching and coaching career and was in charge as Artistic Advisor to the Ministry of Culture of Republic Uzbekistan being involved in many projects of Cultural Exchanges between East and West. From 2001 Mme.Karieva was regular Guest Teacher at Clear Lake Metropolitan Ballet Vaganova International Summer Workshop held annually in Houston, Texas, USA. In 2004 she opened her own first of a kind Private Ballet School in Tashkent named "Style and Dance" where enjoys Position of Executive Artistic Director Respectively. Mme.Karieva is featured in Who is Who Worldwide Cambridge Dictionary and has appeared on Television in many Pre recorded Programs and Ballet Documentaries - two being dedicated exclusively to her: "Ballerina" and "Dancing With Bernara Karieva". For her service to the Art of Classical Ballet and Brilliant National and International Career Mme.Karieva has been awarded many Medals, Honors and Merits from the Governments of USSR and Uzbekistan -The Order of the Badge of Honor, USSR 1959, Order of The Red Banner of Labor, USSR 1986, The Order for Artistic Achievements Dustlik, Uzbekistan 1996. Awarded Silver Medal and Second Place at Moscow International Ballet Competition (1957).
